Martin Sigalow
Associate

Martin Sigalow is a commercial litigator who represents companies in complex disputes in federal and state courts. His practice focuses on commercial litigation involving financial services, banking, and technology-related disputes. He assists clients through all phases of litigation, including dispositive briefing, discovery, and trial preparation.

Before joining Massey & Gail, Martin practiced at Sidley Austin LLP.

Martin earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he received the Seymour A. Levy Memorial Award for his student note. While in law school, he served as a judicial intern to the Hon. Kenneth M. Karas of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and as an extern in the Civil Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

  • Principal drafter representing JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A. in consequential federal appellate proceeding before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit involving bank liability for “red flag” detection under aiding and abetting statutes; affirmance of dismissal secured on all counts and denial of further leave to amend affirmed.
  • Principal drafter representing Metropolis, a parking technology company, across four states and eight federal courts in multi-state class action litigation involving alleged federal and state challenges of ongoing sophisticated business practices; suits ongoing.
  • Principal managing associate representing plaintiff PayLink, a consumer financing company, in two Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, eight-figure litigations involving the collapse of a vehicle service contract administrator and related disputes; secured two separate judgments totaling more than $70 million in liability in favor of the client; spearheaded discovery, motion practice, including dispositive motions, and trial preparation, including evidence lists and motions in limine.
  • Principal drafter and associate representing CNC Intelligence, a cryptocurrency investigation company, in Illinois state court involving access to Know Your Customer information sought by the City of Chicago; full victory for client secured against the City of Chicago.
  • Principal associate representing former official in confidential S.D.N.Y. investigation involving Department of the Treasury.
  • Junior associate representing an individual director of a Fortune 10 retail company in a nine-figure derivative securities class action in the Delaware Court of Chancery involving opioid liability.
  • Junior associate representing McKesson Corporation in temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction proceedings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey involving bankruptcy of Rite Aid; favorable settlement secured.
  • Junior associate representing a closed-end fund in a federal appellate proceeding before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit involving claims under the Investment Company Act of 1940.
  • Represented private equity firms and financial institutions in non-party subpoena and civil investigative demand matters, including defeating a motion to compel production of sensitive business information.

Pro bono

  • Principal day-to-day managing associate for an individual subjected to solitary confinement in an eight-figure federal civil rights suit against New York state officials in the Northern District of New York involving novel constitutional issues; led discovery, first-chaired four depositions, and second-chaired eight depositions.
  • Principal day-to-day associate for a death row inmate seeking a new trial in Ohio appellate court proceedings involving suppressed Brady material, in connection with the Ohio Innocence Project; drafted multiple briefs, including appellate briefs.
