Brigid Carmichael is a litigator representing companies and individuals in a range of complex actions, including antitrust, investigations, ERISA, false advertising, and constitutional matters.

Brigid’s practice focuses on high-stakes federal litigation, where she takes on substantive roles in discovery, motion practice, and witness examinations. Her experience includes managing discovery for a national trade association in a major antitrust matter and deposing key witnesses in an Eighth Amendment case against officials at Stateville Prison.

Before joining Massey & Gail, Brigid worked as a lobbyist and litigator at Legal Action Chicago, where she advocated for clients living in poverty through federal class actions, state court matters, and policy reform.

Brigid earned her J.D. from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, where she served as an associate editor of the Journal of Law and Social Policy and was active on the board of the ACLU. She received her B.A. from Grinnell College and was a Posse Scholar.

  • Served as local counsel for Novo Nordisk in 12 false advertising actions in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against medical spas involving Ozempic and semaglutide marketing; secured eleven settlements within one year of filing.
  • Served as an associate representing the National Association of REALTORS® in nationwide antitrust class action litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois involving challenges to buyer broker compensation practices and claims seeking tens of billions of dollars in damages; settlement is pending.
  • Led discovery in a matter representing the trustees of Unite Here Health in an ERISA class action in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois involving allegations of fiduciary breach related to administrative expenses; prevailed on summary judgment and obtained sanctions against third parties.
  • Second-chaired a suit representing an incarcerated individual in §1983 litigation against officials at Stateville Correctional Center in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois involving Eighth Amendment claims for inadequate medical care; secured a monetary settlement.
  • Served as an associate representing a national insurance company in a confidential internal investigation involving allegations of discrimination and retaliation against a former executive; conducted witness interviews and mediation resulting in a pre-suit resolution.
  • Drafted a motion to intervene and writ of mandamus for a plaintiff-side law firm in objecting to a proposed nationwide class settlement in Missouri State Court involving glyphosate-based herbicide claims and alleged inadequate protections for future claimants; case is ongoing.
