After handling all of the briefing in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, Massey & Gail associate Chris Walling appeared before that court to argue the appeal in Office of the Special Deputy Receiver v. Hartford Fire Insurance Co., a high-stakes insurance coverage dispute involving millions of dollars in losses arising from a wire fraud scheme. The appeal concerns whether coverage exists under a financial institution bond after hackers gained access to an executive’s email account and initiated fraudulent wire transfers from accounts associated with insurers in liquidation proceedings. The argument, in which Chris represented the Office of the Special Deputy Receiver as appellant, marked Chris’s return to the Seventh Circuit where he clerked for Judge Frank H. Easterbrook.
